- The Anthony Nolan Trust
Selsius' connection with the Anthony Nolan Trust came about when the Company Director's sister was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Paula had up until this point been a fit and healthy 24 year old woman, so her diagnosis came as a real shock to all who knew her.
Following years of chemotherapy, her only chance of survival was to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully a donor was found through the Anthony Nolan Trust. Without the kindness of her donor and the tireless work of the charity, Paula would not be with us today.
Since 2004, Selsius have been raising and directly donating money for our chosen charity, The Anthony Nolan Trust, and we thank all of our customers, past and present, which have helped us to achieve this.
In addition, we hope that by raising the profile of the charity, we have also encouraged some of you out there to join the register as potential life saving donors. We always have an open invitation to you all to join us in any of our future fundraising events.
Plans are already in place for 2010 for the Sunderland 10k, as well as our regular entry into the Great North Run and the Great North Swim, so give us a call if you are up to the challenge! Alternatively, a complete list of challenges and events can be found on the charity’s website
anthonynolan.org.uk but be sure to keep us informed so we can cheer you on!2009 events
Baitings Dam Zip Slide
Andrea, our Distribution Manager, kicked off this year’s events by taking part in a 200m long zip slide at Baitings Dam in Yorkshire. The zip slide took her from the top of the Dam to the bottom, some 60m below, in a matter of seconds. The event was all the more impressive as Andrea suffers from vertigo, but she tackled the challenge well and we anticipate nothing short of a sky dive next year!!
The Great North Bike Ride
Nikki and Alan completed the Great North Bike Ride in August. It was the second time Alan had completed this gruelling 54 mile trip down the Northumberland coast but the first time for Nikki.
The Great North Swim
Then it was the turn of our two seasoned swimmers from our Accounts Department. Tracey and Zoe once again donned the goggles and petroleum jelly for a very refreshing 1 mile swim across Lake Windermere. This was the second time that they have completed this challenge, smashing their personal bests. Well done girls.
Amsterdam Marathon
And finally James, our Managing Director, completed the Amsterdam
Marathon in October. The months of dedicated training and healthy living had clearly paid off with a very respectable finishing time, whilst raising an impressive amount of money for charity.Mauvais Air
In addition to our commitment to The Anthony Nolan Trust, this year we offered our additional support to the plight of Malaria at World Malaria Day on 25th April 2009. The campaign Mauvais Air was brought to our attention by William Daniels who was appointed to represent the various Malaria organisations and produce a photographic exhibition which was awarded 1st Prize in the 2008 Picture of the Year Awards. William held his exhibitions at Pont des Arts in Paris and the OXO Building on London’s South Bank, which was attended by Selsius, Stephen O’Brien (Shadow Minister for Health) and Michele Barzach (Former French Health Minister) as well as Comic Relief. Selsius has promised to assist in the pledge set by the Roll Back Malaria Partnership to ensure that every man, woman and child has access to essential malaria prevention and treatment services by 2010. You can support them too by signing up at worldmalariaday.org
And Finally
We are once again proud to announce that Selsius Ltd is the official sponsors of the Oakington Vikings Football Team for 2009-2010 season.
